Capturing Dig Sites and Cities
Why territory matters
Dig Sites do three jobs:
- they give every member Coal;
- they produce Rare Soil; and
- they create the connected path to cities.
Cities then produce much more Rare Soil, warm their tiles, and open the route to the Capitol.
Plan the route before capturing
We can capture only a Dig Site or city that touches our territory. Diagonal contact counts.
Before Day 1, Leadership will plan backward from our Level 4–6 city targets:
- choose the cities worth reaching;
- trace the required Dig Sites and lower cities;
- account for the two-capture daily limits and ownership caps; and
- identify alternate paths if another alliance blocks the route.
Season 2 city and Dig Site captures occur only inside your own warzone. Do not build a plan around cross-warzone territorial expansion.
The decisive Dig Site mechanic
The guarding beast has a resistance requirement and a troop type. The rally leader matters more than most members realize:
- lower-resistance rally joiners inherit the leader's resistance;
- members with higher resistance retain their own; and
- the rally still needs enough squad power and survivors to register damage.
Leadership will name the highest-resistance qualified rally leaders. Only those players will start capture rallies.
Beast counters
- Gorilla is Aircraft type: use Missile Vehicle squads.
- Bear is Missile Vehicle type: use Tank squads.
- Mammoth is Tank type: use Aircraft squads.
Use the correct counter even when a different squad has slightly higher displayed power.
Dig Site capture, explained
1. Break the ice
Members spend stamina to unfreeze the beast. This only makes the beast attackable; it does not capture the site.
2. Kill the beast with designated rally leaders
Fill their rallies with the strongest correct-type squads. Do not let low-resistance members start competing rallies that cause unnecessary deaths.
3. Fill the Dig Site after the beast dies
The capture percentage rises while alliance squads occupy the site. Put strong squads into the ten available positions and keep replacing any that leave until the bar reaches 100%.
Any action on the Dig Site qualifies a member for participation. Weaker members should break ice, join a designated rally, or help fill the site after the beast dies. Do not start an extra rally merely to qualify; it can waste troops and slow the approved rallies.
If your rally does no damage
Check these in order:
- Did a highest-resistance player start the rally?
- Did the rally use the troop type that counters the beast?
- Did at least one squad survive the attack?
- Is the enemy resistance warning applying a massive damage penalty?
- Are you simply attempting the site before the alliance has enough Furnace levels?
Do not solve zero damage by throwing more low-resistance rallies at the target. That only burns troops.
Choosing between Dig Sites
Compare:
- the path it opens;
- hourly Coal and Rare Soil;
- the beast type and resistance requirement;
- whether the alliance can fill the capture positions; and
- whether the daily capture slot is needed for a more important route.
The highest available level is not always the best next capture.
Capturing a city
A city attack has two parts:
- clear the defending squads; and
- continue attacking until city durability reaches zero and occupation completes.
Before declaring, confirm that the alliance can legally reach the city and has enough online players to finish both parts. City combat can cause permanent troop losses.
After capture, verify:
- the new heat on the tile;
- hourly Rare Soil production;
- the protection timer; and
- the next legal Dig Sites and cities.
Why Level 4 cities matter
City Rare Soil production rises gradually from Levels 1–3, then jumps at Level 4:
- Level 1: 350/hour
- Level 2: 400/hour
- Level 3: 450/hour
- Level 4: 800/hour
- Level 5: 900/hour
- Level 6: 1,000/hour
Reaching a Level 4 city early can matter more than holding several weak Dig Sites that do not advance the route.
Before you join a capture
Confirm these six things before sending a squad:
- What are we capturing?
- When does the rally start?
- Who is allowed to lead rallies?
- Which troop type will join?
- Who fills the site after the beast dies?
- What is the stop condition?
