Pre-Season & Day 1
What matters
Day 1 is a race for Coal and resistance.
- Coal upgrades Titanium Alloy Factories.
- Factories produce Titanium Alloy.
- Titanium Alloy upgrades your personal Furnace.
- Furnace levels give the resistance needed to damage seasonal zombies, Dig Site beasts, and city defenders.
- Captured Dig Sites then give the entire alliance more Coal every hour.
That is the opening loop. Do not burn scarce Coal for small bonuses while your factories and Furnace are still underdeveloped.
Before Season 2 opens
Every member
- Save stamina and training speedups, and avoid unnecessary troop losses before the season opens. City sieges and some seasonal combat can kill troops permanently.
- Save completed Radar Tasks so they can be collected after Season 2 begins.
- Do not take the day's Doom Walker first kill immediately after reset. Wait until the Season 2 map is active, then join or lead the highest-level Doom Walker you can defeat. Current player data places the Coal cap at Level 190.
Leadership
Before the map opens, Leadership will decide:
- where the Alliance Furnace and hive will go;
- which Level 1 Dig Site starts the route toward the desired cities;
- which troop type counters that Dig Site's beast;
- who has the alliance's highest resistance and will lead the rallies; and
- when members must be online for the first capture.
Leadership will publish the Furnace location, first target, rally leaders, troop counter, and start time before members relocate.
Day 1: do these in order
1. Move inside the Alliance Furnace square
The Alliance Furnace heats only the marked area around it. Members with weaker personal Furnaces need the inner spaces most.
Do not build a loose hive that leaves members outside the heated square.
2. Help build and fuel the Alliance Furnace
Open Alliance → Alliance Furnace, select its coordinates, and send a squad to repair it. Donate Coal from the Furnace screen after construction. This keeps the heated area operating during the first Blizzard.
Do not donate every piece of Coal. You still need enough to upgrade factories and operate your personal Furnace when the temperature drops.
3. Collect early Coal
Prioritize:
- the daily Doom Walker first kill;
- seasonal zombie and elite first kills;
- saved Radar Tasks that award Coal; and
- Coal produced by captured Dig Sites.
To collect Dig Site production, open Alliance → Alliance City → Produced Coal → Claim All.
4. Unlock your Alloy Factories
Upgrade the first regular Titanium Alloy Factory to Level 15. That unlocks the next regular factory. Repeat until all regular factories are open.
Why this order matters: spreading Coal across low-level factories delays the next factory, which delays all future Alloy production.
If you buy the Weekly Pass, its bonus factory does not replace the regular unlock chain. Check its upgrade cost, but do not let it delay getting each regular factory to Level 15.
5. Upgrade your personal Furnace
Use Titanium Alloy to raise the Furnace. The real prize is Virus Resistance, not simply a warmer number on the screen. More resistance lets your squad damage stronger seasonal targets without being destroyed by the resistance penalty.
6. Capture the first Dig Site
The rally leader's resistance is applied to rally members who have less resistance. Therefore:
- only the rally leaders named by Leadership will start rallies;
- fill those rallies with the strongest available squads; and
- use the troop type that counters the guarding beast.
After the beast dies, send strong squads into the Dig Site and keep it filled until capture reaches 100%.
Prepare for the first Blizzard
Open Season 2 → Cold Wave and use the countdown shown there.
Before it starts:
- remain inside the Alliance Furnace square;
- keep a personal Coal reserve;
- enable Auto-Turn On Furnace in Blizzard;
- enable Auto-Overdrive in Blizzard if your normal Furnace cannot keep you above
-20°C; and - know how to request emergency warming from allies.
Do not use a fixed Coal target. Check the Furnace's displayed Coal consumption against the Blizzard timer and keep a buffer for overdrive.
After the Blizzard, turn overdrive off. Community reports repeatedly warn that it can continue burning Coal after the danger has passed.
How allies warm a cold base
If a member is approaching -20°C:
- Open Season 2 → Cold Wave → World Info → Warm Up.
- Select the cold member.
- Send a Recon Plane to their base.
Each plane normally adds +2°C. A profession skill can improve the warming to +4°C. Several allies can send planes to stack the effect.
This is emergency heat for a member who is close to freezing. It is not a vague “Recon Aircraft bonus,” and it costs the sender Coal.
Already-owned temperature bonus
If you already own Victory Tower, Level 3 gives a +5°C base-temperature buffer. It makes freezing less likely; it does not replace the Furnace or Alliance Furnace coverage.
Day 1 success test
By the end of Day 1:
- members are packed inside the heated square;
- the Alliance Furnace is operating;
- regular Alloy Factories are moving through the Level 15 unlock chain;
- members have enough Coal for the first Blizzard;
- the first Dig Site is producing Coal; and
- everyone knows how to warm or unfreeze an ally.
